Should I Join a Podcast Network?

Do you have a podcast? Do you want to grow your listenership and get more exposure for your show? If so, then you may be thinking about joining a podcast network. Podcast networks are groups of podcasts that work together to promote each other’s shows by cross-promoting on social media. Most networks also offer their members benefits such as advertising opportunities and access to studio space. Before signing up with one, though, it’s important to consider the pros and cons:

“Man if I could just get on (insert network name), my show would take off. I don’t think that is how this works. In some cases, I’ve heard of people being asked to join networks based on a previous relationship they had with people at a network. If you think that some network is searching the globe for a “diamond in the rough”, I think you are misled.

The shows I see being added to larger networks are already successful (which is why they are being brought on the network). It’s like musicians or actors who are in search of a manager. The easiest way to get a manager is to have enough success that there is something to manage.

One other thing about networks. I think Eric Nuzum said it best. “A Network doesn’t make a podcast big. It makes a big podcast - bigger.”
