Pete,
If someone pays $6, and the podcaster gets all of the money, then the podcast should get $6. Don’t try to pull the old shell game on people and say “We’re proud to charge podcast creators zero fees,” and instead say the listener is paying $6 and “Podhero needs money to operate so we take $1 (which is 17% if you take 1/6).
I’m also confused. Couldn’t any of the 277 million Paypal users subscribe to a monthly donation? Can’t listeners recommend other shows with the share buttons built into every app I’ve ever used? (or even this thing called “Word of mouth”)?
I mean if I can get someone who loves my show so much that they want to support me, wouldn’t the listener want to support me in a way that I (their beloved host) gets the MOST money? Isn’t that why shows like Congressional Dish and the No Agenda Show not only accept Paypal, but also written checks because their audience wants the host(s) to get every dime of their donation? (they also are PHENOMENAL podcasts that deliver information you can’t get anyplace else).
Maybe I’m missing something…
