Another Clueless Company Jumps Into Podcasting to Prey on the Uninformed

Kajabi is a popular tool for entrepreneurs. It allows you to have memberships, products, email lists, etc all in one service (kind of like Podia, only much more expensive). They recently added podcast hosting to their mix. I find it mind-boggling that the first line of their website shows, “Everything you need for your knowledge business” and yet here I am sharing how their lack of knowledge could result in you losing your podcast audience. I’m not saying they are evil. I feel they are “uninformed.”

In full disclosure, my day job is working for a podcast media host (so I live, eat, breathe, podcasting).

However, I assure you I am writing this as “The guy from the School of Podcasting” who has seen many companies jump into podcasting because it’s “Hot” and it is I, who ends up cleaning the mess when people decide the company is not a good fit.

According to a post on their site, Kajabi makes it easy to:

Easily import your existing podcast into Kajabi.
Distribute your podcast to Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify
Create a private podcast for your customers.
Monetize your podcast.

Why Would You use Kajabi for Your Podcast?

According to their site, one customer stated, “One of the things I know to be true is this: you will not have to pay any more for another tool or another resource to host your podcast.”

Don’t Paint With Peanut Butter

Kajabi’s most popular plan is $159/month. Podcast hosting is typical $20 or less a month. I am intrigued that a customer who is willing to pay $159/month can’t find an additional $20/month (or less) for a true podcast host. But I digress…

Sure, you can paint with peanut butter, but your painting will come out much better if you used actual paint. When web hosts who provide tools to make beautiful websites offer podcasting services, they (in some cases) produce fragile RSS feeds that break.

A music service like Soundcloud hasn’t implemented the Apple updates from 2017.
